Connect the system using these handy tips.
Installation to your telephone system is as easy as plugging in an audio cable. Today, we’re going to provide you with valuable information and certain things that you must remember to make sure that your system sounds great!
Don’t forget to note that this is only applicable to those who want to connect their On-Hold message production to an MOH input on a PBX or key style phone system. If you have a smaller telephone service, such as one purchased at an electronics or office supply store, give us a call, and we can advise on how to connect your phones.
OK, here we go…
Any Windows based PC can serve as your audio feed source. The computer may be a server, or any one that is conveniently located somewhat near the telephone control box. The computer doesn't have to be dedicated to only playing the on-hold message, but can be used as a desktop computer for other tasks while playing your messages. Our system uses files that have been configured to play your message seemlessly in an endless loop. Your caller will never hear "dead-air", or long pauses between the recorded messages or background music.
From the 'Speaker' output (sometimes coded green) of your PC, connect an audio cable [Radio Shack cables are often used] to the MOH port on your telephone system.
In other words.......PC (speaker out) ---------------------> to Telephone System M.O.H.
When the connection is completed, after clicking on your internet link, our custom or generic audio will begin in moments. The mixed messages (script with music) will play continuously from your computer, and they hear the On Hold message in-progress, not from the start. Our audio technicians create perfect endless loop productions, so the caller is never interrupted by "dead air" or sudden changes in the sound. Endless loop means that the production never ends. Neat, right? In technical jargon, the sound travels from the computer audio output over the audio cable to the MOH input on your phone system.
Can't find the phone system input?
If you can't seem to be able to find the MOH port on your telephone system, it's probably because your telephone technician has connected the wires for music on hold directly into the system. There is a device used for attaching wires to phone systems called a “punch-down block” and your technician may need to attach the on hold playback device on the block by using the proper tools.
A few tips....
Never force the wrong connector into the wrong receptacle. If you're not sure, give us a call, or have a pro technician do it for you. Be sure to call your system from an outside line to test the sound. If the sound sometimes fades out, turn the computer volume up a bit so the callers can take full advantage of your professional messages.
Enjoy!
